Open roles

On October 6, 2026 InternScout listed 14,420 open internships, co-ops and research roles from 1,772 employers in 65 fields. They are in 50 of the 50 US states and 10 Canadian provinces and territories; 660 roles are in Canada. 2,173 of them were found in the week to October 6, 2026. Among them, as of October 6, 2026: 1,525 co-ops and 570 research positions.

Pay

3,416 of the 14,420 open roles (23%) list pay or say they are paid, as of October 6, 2026. 1,757 (12%) give a clear hourly rate. Among the 1,717 that give one and are not only in Canada (the same role on two boards counted once), the median is $25 an hour and the highest is $73 an hour, as of October 6, 2026. Roles only in Canada (33 roles with a rate) are left out of the median and the top rate, since their pay is in Canadian dollars; yearly salaries and stipends are never turned into hourly figures. Highest-paying internships has the roles, fields and employers.

Where the listings come from

12,537 of the 14,420 open roles (86%) come straight from employers' own applicant tracking systems, as of October 6, 2026; the other 1,883 are from employers' own careers sites and public lists. Workday has the most, 7,203 roles or 49% of all open roles. Then Greenhouse 1,583 (10%), Oracle 1,213 (8%), iCIMS 777 (5%), Ashby 543 (3%), Lever 371 (2%), Eightfold 174 (1%), Taleo 142 (under 1%), JazzHR 139 (under 1%) and BambooHR 129 (under 1%).

The largest fields

The 10 largest of the 65 fields, by open roles on October 6, 2026: Software Engineering (2,437), Engineering (1,215), Finance (869), Data Science and Analytics (830), Operations (748), Machine Learning and AI (664), Mechanical Engineering (663), Marketing (649), Industrial Engineering (612) and Accounting (510). A role tagged with two fields counts in each.

Where the roles are

The 10 US states with the most open roles on October 6, 2026: California (2,577), Texas (1,659), New York (1,463), Illinois (959), Massachusetts (846), Pennsylvania (789), Ohio (666), Minnesota (616), Virginia (600) and Florida (573). A role filed in two states counts in each. 282 open roles can be done remotely. In Canada, the most are in Ontario (391), Quebec (102) and British Columbia (93).

How this is counted

Every figure is counted from the listings open on October 6, 2026, the same export the listing pages are built from. Spellings of one employer count as one employer. Pay is what the posting says, and a role that lists none is counted as listing none. A dated figure is true of that day; the page is rebuilt, and the date moves, with every update.
